Facebook has been preaching technological problems of it's Face Recognition, a feature to connect a photo of someone with their Facebook profile, make it easier to tag people to the image. However, researchers from the Heinz College, Carnegie Mellon University show, Facebook photos can be used to identify people in the street as well.
Researchers gave the title research "Faces of Facebook : Privacy in the Age of Augmented Reality", ie, Alessandro Acquisti, Ralph Gross and Fred Stutzman demonstrate the problem in technical security conference Black Hat ladder; July 30 to August 4 in Las Vegas. They used published data, such as a photo of a student's Facebook profile, and then uses facial recognition technology to identify these students face as seen in web camera.
The result, using a database of 25.000 images taken from a Facebook profile, they found the face recognition software is able to identify 31 percent more students face accurately. The study then raises questions about user privacy. May be easy to change the name, but it would be difficult to replace someone's face in cyberspace.
